| Dr. Tanya W. Spirtos’ practice
focuses on the evaluation and treatment of infertility, women’s
wellness, and urinary incontinence. She emphasizes lifestyle changes
for the prevention of cancer and chronic illnesses, particularly
around the time of menopause. She is skilled in minimally invasive
surgery for the treatment of pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding
and pelvic relaxation issues.
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago
in 1976, she attended Northwestern University Medical School,
completed her residency program in Obstetrics-Gynecology at Los
Angeles County-University of Southern California at Women’s
Hospital, and finished the first year of a fellowship in Reproductive
Endocrinology and Infertility before moving to the Bay Area and
joining the Sunnyvale Medical Clinic in 1985. Following the birth
of her twins, Michael and Alexandra, she began private practice
in gynecology and infertility in 1990 at Stanford Medical Center.
In 2002, she joined the Women’s Cancer Center and then the
Center for Gynecologic Oncology and Pelvic Surgery where she gained
valuable experience in gynecologic oncology and urogynecology.
Now that the twins are starting college (at the University of
Chicago, of all places!) she has moved her practice to the Women’s
Care Medical Group at Sequoia Hospital.
Dr. Spirtos was on the Sequoia Health Services Board of Directors
from 2003 through 2007. She is active in the Santa Clara County
Medical Association (president 2005-2006), chaired the California
Medical Association District 7 Delegation, and is an active member
of both the California Medical Association and the American Medical
Association. She just completed her tenth year as Adjunct Clinical
Assistant Professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has privileges also
at El Camino Hospital, Community Hospital of Los Gatos, and Good
Samaritan Hospital. She is a Fellow of the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is Board Certified by the
American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Spirtos grew up in New London, Connecticut, speaking Russian
as her first language. Her interests include participation in
the activities of Church of the Holy Cross in Belmont, support
of the Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, reading and golf
(although both Mike and Alex play better than she does!) |
