Dr. Joyce was raised in Colorado. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychobiology from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts in 1984, where she graduated second in her class. From there she went to Washington, D.C. for a year where she worked at the Genetics and IVF Institute, a clinic specializing in prenatal diagnosis and in vitro fertilization. It was there that she developed her interest in infertility and her skill in ultrasound. She went on to medical school not far away in Baltimore, Maryland at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Upon graduation from Johns Hopkins in 1989, she received an award for having the most promise in gynecologic surgery.

Dr. Joyce then headed west and did her internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco. While there she received a resident award for surgical skill in laparoscopy. She finished in 1993, and then spent 5 years as a staff physician in Kaiser Redwood City's Ob/Gyn Department. She was transferred to the Santa Teresa facility in San Jose, where she practiced for a year before joining Women's Care Medical Group in May of 1999. She received her board certification in Ob/Gyn in 1995 and is a fellow of the American College of Ob/Gyn. She is also a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Dr. Joyce is married and has two children. In her spare time, she enjoys golf, skiing, photography, and spending time with her family.
